our little one has changed our life in almost every way
"Holding my little one for the first time felt completely surreal. Nothing could prepare me for how beautiful and challenging the process was from the very start. Although we had some preferences for the delivery, we did not have a structured birth plan. We knew things often did not go according to plan and wanted to be open and flexible to whatever might happen once I went into labor.
An unplanned induction after my 38-week check-up was not how I expected our birth story to start, and after a complicated labor we welcomed our beautiful son into the world. Although I knew it would be one of the most difficult experiences of my life, the process of labor was more physically demanding that I could have ever imagined. The transition home was made more difficult by medical issues that left me feeling extremely fatigued. We were incredibly fortunate to have family with us from our very first day home, and it truly made all the difference having that support.
It’s hard to believe that I am a mom now, but I am leaning into the process, enjoying each day, and rolling with the ups and downs. My advice to any new parent would be to take care of yourself and give yourself grace in the moments that you feel like you are not doing enough. Being a new parent takes so much patience and I’ve tried to frame the difficult moments as opportunities to learn and grow (which helps most but not all of the time). Lean on your supports and use your resources. I have found that asking for help and not trying to do it all on my own has made by experience so much easier. And finally, as much as you have probably heard it over and over already, whenever you have the opportunity, REST!
Overall, our little one has changed our life in almost every way, and we wouldn’t change a thing. As everyone told us they grow and change so quickly, newborn photos were a way for us to capture Asher’s first moments. We hope to have these memories as keepsakes that we can look back on, as well as share with him when he is older."
